  • block port 1433

    Hi,

SQL Server 2008 uses port 1433 by default. I want to know if there is a way to block port 1433 either on the server or sql server since i will be using a different port to connect to the database engine.

    Thank You

Yes, use a firewall. I fail to see why you would need an explicit block for a port that Sql Server is not listening anyway. Oh, and beware of the Sql Browser service, if you are trying to hide the server.

I concur. If you're configuring SQL to listen (run) on another port then why do you need to block port 1433 as nothing will be listening (running) on that port.
