  • System DSN refresh time

    Hi,

I have configured a System DSN for SQL Server with windows credentials and used it in one of my application. I have changed the DSN to SQL authentication. When i try to access it from my application as soon as changing the authentication am still able to connect to the DSN with out giving any credentials.

If I retry the same thing after few minutes with out providing any credentials from my application, it throws an exception that the credentials are not valid.

Is there any refresh time for DSN?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers..
    Sasi

No, there's no refresh period, it'll pick up the new creds right away.
What I think I'm hearing is that once you change it, you try to connect from the app and it works, but then subsequent connections don't work.

So typically what happens is with a dsn connection you'll specify a username/password in the connection string. Have you tried that?

It may be that the application still had open handles\running processes and still had a connection to the server using the previous credentials. Once all the application handles released and the processes terminated is probably when you got the error about the credentials being invalid. Of course this is all an assumption on my part.

The question really is, can you ever connect using the dsn or is the connection just dead now... so once you get that initial connection, then the error, then what??? are you ever able to connect to it from that box...

also, while we're here, why are you switching from a windows to a sql acct to begin with?
