  • Outlook 2007 hour glass issue

    Here's the details:

Windows XP SP3 Outlook 2007 Hosted exchange account.

When working in outlook the cursor becomes the hourglass about every 30 seconds. This seems to create a lag when typing in a new message, and if the user is creating a new calendar appointment, (clicking an open time slot on the calendar and typing a name for the appointment), the activity causes it to end the entry of data, (just like pressing enter would).

I have recreated the user's outlok profile, reinstalled MS Office 2007, tried disabling add-ons, and trying various combonations of settings for the account to no avail.

I can't recreate this on a test machine, and out of about 200 users with identical setups, no one else is having this problem.

Any ideas where to look now?

    TIA

How many items in the user's Exchange account? How many in a single folder? Are you using Exchange Cached Mode?

How can I check the itmes in the exchange account? I don't have access to the server, hosted account

I have tried enabling/disabling Exchange cache mode, no change.

I found how to show total items in Outlook 2007, the user's inbox has 6475 in the inbox

Try and cut that down to less than 5000. Have them organize things into folders if necessary. Use cached mode...

Other than that, check the AV to see if it's running the latest program version. You can also try uninstalling it to see if it performs better. If it does then see if there's recommended settings for Outlook from the AV vendor, or switch AV products...

There's also a bunch of other things it could be but those two are the most likely that I can think of right now.

              definigely the 5000 item issue.
also check the actual size of the mailbox - more than 5gb it,s gong to be tereibleperformance

No necessarily true. It could definitely be a contributing factor but I have clients with 30 GB mailboxes that can actually function...

Well this is a pretty large environment with some beefy mailbox servers and several database.

Top 20 users in the databases I manage:
                    Code:
                     TotalItemSize(MB) ItemCount
