  • RPC over HTTP

    Hi All,

I have set up Outlook 2007 to connect to a fully patched SBS 2003 using RPC over HTTP. All has connected fine up to the point where it asks me for the final username and password for which it wont accpet any.

If I run OWA this works perfectly with the standard login credentials however if I run OWA with the RPC extention (mydomain.com/rpc) it invites me to log in with the same login box thet I get with the Outlook connection and this also fails

I have tested this with testexchangeconnectivity.com and although it passed "validating the certificate name" it failed on "Certificate trust validation failed"

The CA is a self cert that has been accepted by the trusted authority..

    I'd appreciate any help... Thanks

    Re: RPC over HTTP

cdon't use self signed certificates. just get a real one.
    try this reseller:
    http://certificatesforexchange.com/

the other are you might have a concern is a 2007 FE server to a 2003 MBX server

      Re: RPC over HTTP

Many thanks for the reply but this is a shame as we have set up numerous rpc over http connections on a variety of versions of Outlook to both Exchange 5 and 7 without any probs using the self cert. This is the first time we've had this problem

        Re: RPC over HTTP

have you added the self-signed certificate to the trusted root authority store on the computer in question?

Also, does the user account have "must change password" set ?

Thanks again for your help and Yes the ca successfully installed on the client and "must change password" is NOT set.

For some reason it's the TRUST validation that seems to fail

            Re: RPC over HTTP

Run the appropriate SBS Wizard and create a new Certificate. Had the same problem and a new cert fixed the authentication issue immediately.
