  • Intermittent Password prompt outlook 2003

I have an intermittent outlook issue that I would like some advice on. We are using Outlook 2003 installed on XP workstations with exchange 2003 installed on one of our servers. We have this setup at several sites within our single domain. A few users at a handful of sites will get prompted for a username and password when opening outlook. This will last for approximately 3 days and then disappear but will reappear to the same users every 3 weeks. It doesn’t matter what workstation the users logon to the fault follows them (other users can logon to same W/S with no errors). Email functionality seems unaffected but the password prompt box reappears every minute or so asking them for authentication to the local exchange server. If the effected user uses the send and receive button they get the following EM (0x8004011D) The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.'

    I have tried the following,

    - Checked DNS settings on both W/S and server
    - Run IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS on W/S and server
    - Readded Outlook profile with server IP
    - Readded Outlook profile using cached exchange mode
    - Unticked “always prompt for authentication” box
    - Unticked “ Send as soon as connected “ box
    - Pinged exchange server using IP and FQDN both successful
    - Changed order of address books
    - Added user into ACL in Exchange system manager
    - Restarted Exchange services
    - Opening Outlook in safemode

Thanks in advance for any help!
