  • Outlook 2007 - problem with Internet Headers in attached messages

    Hi all,

    Outlook 2007 has a handy "Message Options" window which displays all headers for a given email message (under "Internet Headers"). The problem is - this only seems to work properly if it's an email that was delivered straight to my inbox.

    When viewing the internet headers of an attached email, I run into problems.

    I asked someone to send me a few email messages as attachments (so I can see the headers and check why they were tagged as spam)..... and here's an example of what I get (only changed the email addresses for privacy).

    As you can see, most of the headers are missing, and a part of the message content is displayed instead:

    References: <[email protected]> <[email protected]> <[email protected]>
    From: "ExampleSender" <[email protected]>
    To: "Recipient" <[email protected]>

    This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

    ------_=_NextPart_021_01CA4802.88753E80
    Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
    boundary="----_=_NextPart_022_01CA4802.88753E80"
    Another example:

    Thread-Topic: {Spam?} RE: Order
    Thread-Index: AcpIwBsn5WZsAuutRqW4K+OrR4PHwgABnlHQ
    References: <[email protected]> <[email protected]>
    From: "ExampleSender" <[email protected]>
    To: "Recipient" <[email protected]>

    This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

    ------_=_NextPart_007_01CA48C7.4C57E180
    Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
    boundary="----_=_NextPart_008_01CA48C7.4C57E180"

    ------_=_NextPart_008_01CA48C7.4C57E180
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    charset="UTF-8"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

    However, when I check those same messages on the other machine - the one that received them in the first place - and click on "Internet Options", I can see all the headers (and only headers).

    It looks as if the headers are getting mangled by the sender's Outlook as soon as the email is attached. Does anyone know more? Is there a way to view the full, original email headers of attached emails without physically checking the Outlook inbox they were received at? Perhaps there's an add-in providing better handling of headers?

    Thanks in advance...
