  • OL2007 Mailbox size: Server data larger than local data

    hi,

User gets messages regarding exceeding his mailbox size. I've check mailbox size and found that the server data shows 20mb more than the local data. the differences are in more that on folder.
How do I reduce the server data?
I know I can use mfcmapi or mdbvu32, but I don't know what shuld be deleted. the user has already removed unnecessary items from his mailbox, but the server data has not been reduced.

      Hi Andy,

Deleted items retension time is the default 7 days. but I don't think this is the problem, since both server and local "deleted items" folders were empty

Search the Messenging Software Forums as this has been answered by Sembee in the last 2 or 3 months.
        1 1 was a racehorse.
        2 2 was 1 2.

FYI - when you delete a message it moves from deleted items to a special hidden folder for the duration set for deleted item retention. This allows users to recover messages that may have be deleted by mistake without having to get the admin to restore.

          1. Open Exchange System Manager.
          2. Click the server, click the Mailbox Store, right click the Mailboxes object, and then click View.
          3. Click Choose Columns, highlight Deleted Items (KB), click Add to
move Deleted Items (KB) from Hidden columns: to Displayed items:, and
          then click OK.
          4. Click the View tab, and the click the Columns tab.
          5. Select Deleted Items (KB).
          6. Click the Add button.

It will never match up 100% but you should be closer now .
