  • How to set up global address books in Outlook 2003

    Hi folks

I am thinking of switching our email client at our organisation to Outlook 2003 (we already have Office installed). We do not use Exchange, but use Mercury32.

Looking into global address books, most references seem to assume that Exchange is available. I assume there must be some alternatives, but the only one I've seen so far refers to setting up an LDAP address book.

Is there a simple/easier way to set up global address books in a domain environment? I don't need step-by-step instructions, just something to put me on the right track.

    Thanks.

LDAP is about your only choice.
Outlook is designed to be used with Exchange, although I have used some other email servers that expose all users via LDAP (comes in handy when using a third party tool to do recipient filtering).

Have you checked your existing product to see if there is some kind of LDAP support in that?

    Simon.

      Hi Sembee

Apologies for the late response - I missed this reply somehow.

I will get onto the mercury forums and see if anyone has any suggestions.

      Thanks for your input.

I am not firm with Exchange and SharePoint server, but could be also a Sharepoint server which shows/use a Global Addresslist (without Exchange Server)?

        Kind regards

Thanks for the information. Our servers are standard W2k3 R2. No Sharepoint. Could be useful for others though.

          Cheers!
