  • Outlook 2003 unable to connect via VPN

    Hi,

We are using Exchange 2003 (Windows 2003) in a Windows 2000 domain.
The email client is Outlook 2003 on Windows XP SP2.
    The VPN used is Netscreen(SafeNet).
The Firewall is a Juniper Netscreen NS-25.

All clients can connect to the VPN with success.
All clients can ping server IP with success.

My question is in 2 phases.

#1: Why the client needs to have their user ID and password for using a net use commant (network drives)

#2: And the principal fonction of this VPN is the email and some files access. Outlook is not able to make a connection to Exchange, either I set it up to ask username and password (FQDN).

Is anyone have a idea on how to resolve this issue.

    Regards

Re: Outlook 2003 unable to connect via VPN

1# possible because it depends on your logon(PC user/administrator...or domain account)

2# got same problem few months ago. 2 ways of using outlook. normal or over HTTPS

over https>need no VPN, but need to proper configuration of client/server(easy found in various discussion)

ad 2# try when VPN succeslful connected, ping ur server w Exchange, if ok, look at IP, i got problem w internal/external ip adress translation

    Hope i helped bit

Re: Outlook 2003 unable to connect via VPN

      Hi,

What I do not understand it is:
If I open the firewall to let Microsoft/RAS VPN go, it works perfectly. My concern for the Windows VPN is the security and the heavy communication, in addition to this the domain is Windows 2000 so least security than 2003.

        OK,

I did other tests... now I can log to the network properly (hosts, lmhosts and Wins).

However I still not able to log to Exchange.

        When I do a netstat I always get an epmap time-wait !

        Any Ideas ?

        Regards
