  • Script to prompt for Outlook Password

    Gentlemen,

This is my first post and I am delighted to join you all on the board

I am referring to this link:

    http://www.petri.com/configure_outlo...a_password.htm

I am curently working on a NT4 to 2003 migration project and I need to have each Outlook client prompting for a password to avoid that the credentails are brought over from the NT4 domain. How it is shown above is how it an be done manually. Now I can go and make this change but the only problem is that I have over 300 clients to take care of.

Is it possible that a command like this could be put in a login script or the very least a registry key? I really hope so or I better get my skates on!

Looking forward to your suggestions and thanking you in advance

    Decky Dee

Re: Script to prompt for Outlook Password

    Hi,

I have found this link from Microsoft:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940171

There is only one problem, the registry key mentioned does not exist!!. The mentioned a place (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Off ice\11.0\Outlook\Security) but you can only go as far as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies as that is it.

    Can anyone help?

      Hi deckydee,

I have just read through the help from that link and so for good measure I have created the key for you.

I have made the assumption that you wish for it to be enabled so I have set it to 1.

Please find attached - Unzip and just double-click on the reg key.

      Hope it helps.

Yep, it seems to work fine! Let me know how I can pass on the praise

Now while I am here I am going to tell something else.

Our migration also asks that when the users open Internet Explorer that they are also asked for a username and password when the access the InTRAnet (Careful). This time I was able to create the script and it is attached to this mail.

If you are looking for a script for a different zone, just make the same change but on a different zone. The zone for IntrAnet is Zone 1.

The setting you have to change is 1A00 and you can change it to anyone of these:

0x00000000 Automatically logon with current username and password
0x00010000 Prompt for user name and password
0x00020000 Automatic logon only in the Intranet zone
          0x00030000 Anonymous logon

You can find more information here:
