  • Solution for "Enable Users for Communication Server" missing from ADUC

    When you go to your Office Communications server and find that you're missing your OCS options from the Action menu of Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC), you may be using the wrong version of ADUC. I've read that some were using the 64 bit version and needed to use the 32 bit version. In my case, the reverse was true. I was using Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition with SP2.

    To figure out which one you're currently using:

    1. Open ADUC in your standard manner.
    2. Open Windows Task Manager (Hotkey: CTRL+SHIFT+ESC)
    3. Under Applications, right click ADUC and select "Go To Process"
    4. It will bring you to the Processes tab, and an MMC process will be highlighted.

    If you're running ADUC (32 bit), then it will state "mmc.exe *32". Otherwise, it will just state "mmc.exe".

    To use the 32 bit version of ADUC:
    Start -> Run -> dsa.msc -32

    To use the 64 bit version of ADUC:
    Start -> Run -> dsa.msc

    That's it! Note that when you're able to see these extra options in the Action menu, you'll also be able to see an extra tab (Communications) in the user's properties.
