  • Communicator could not retrieve calendar or Out of Office information from Exchange

Our Exchange 2003 users w/ OCS 2007 R2 have no problems, whereas our Exchange 2007 users w/ OCS 2007 R2 users get the following error:

Communicator could not retrieve calendar or Out of Office information from Exchange Web Services. Communicator will automatically continue to retry. If this problem persists, contact your system administrator.
It's not preventing anyone from messaging back and forth, but the more we start using it the more things like OoO integration will come into play. Also, moving people from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 isn't an option.

The Office Communicator Configuration Information page (CTRL+Right click the sys tray icon to access it) shows that same error on the MAPI Information line, Status: MAPI Status Error. Already checked the DG URL Internal and it pops up fine. Manually installed the cert from that page, didn't help. Also installed the July 2010 patch which incorporates the April 2010 patch which sort of says it should fix this issue, rebooted, no go.

I have full admin rights on the Exchange 2007 box, and I'm getting the error, so it shouldn't be a privilege error... HOWEVER... right after OCS is opened, the users get this in their security logs:

    Category: Privilege Use
Subcategory: Sensitive Privilege Use / Non-Sensitive Privilege Use
    Keyword: Audit Failure
    Task Category: Sensitive Privilege use

4673 A privileged service was called.

    Subject:
    Security ID: DOMAIN\USER
    Account Name: USER
    Account Domain: DOMAIN
    Logon ID: 0xb6701

    Service:
    Server: Security
    Service Name: -

    Process:
    Process ID: 0x1060
    Process Name: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office Communicator\communicator.exe

    Service Request Information:
    Privileges: SeTcbPrivilege
Some more research brings this up (which in a nutshell with some other research says that this is an overloaded error that will have almost no information):
Privilege that can be assigned: Act as part of the operating system
    Corresponding string in Winnt.h: SeTcbPrivilege

Allows a process to authenticate like a user and thus gain access to the same resources as a user. Only low-level authentication services should require this privilege.

Note that potential access is not limited to what is associated with the user by default; the calling process might request that arbitrary additional privileges be added to the access token. Note that the calling process can also build an anonymous token that does not provide a primary identity for tracking events in the audit log.
When a service requires this privilege, configure the service to use the LocalSystem account (which already includes the privilege), rather than create a separate account and assign the privilege to it.
Looks like there's some solutions out there, but it's behind the veil of EE:

Also, before anyone asks, Yes, I've seen this site, and yes, cert services are up and running:

SO.... has anyone had this issue before? Anyone got some tips?

This sounds like more a problem of Exchange 2007 rather then OCS.

Does the Exchange 2007 web services work while using Outlook 2007 or 2010?
