  • Uninstalling/Reinstalling Exchange 2013 on hybrid servers

    Hello guys,
We have exchange 2007 SP3 servers, Exchange 2013 CU3 with all rules (no DAG) server and Office 365 .
Exchange 2013 CU3 servers were installed initially only for office 365 migration needs. They configured as hybrid servers.
No, after the migration I would like to install Exchange 2013 servers with DAG.

I am going to install 2 new servers with only Mailbox role on Windows 2008 R2 enterprise.
Also, I will upgrade current Exchange 2013 CU3 to CU7.
Later after making sure everything is ok, I am planning to remove mailbox role from these hybrid servers. Unfortunately, in order to do it, exchange should be removed and re-installed with only client rule.
Will it remove or change significantly hybrid configuration? Is there any manual how to remove\reinstall exchange without changing hybrid config?

    Please assist

Re: Uninstalling/Reinstalling Exchange 2013 on hybrid servers

First - if you are in a hybrid deployment and the hybrid server is on CU3, then you are in an unsupported configuration. Microsoft only support hybrid on the current or previous cumulative update (so CU8 or 7). You need to update the hybrid server before you do anything else.

If you remove Exchange then you will lose most of the hybrid configuration. Therefore removing Exchange isn't really an option unless you have a hybrid connection on another server.

      Hello Simon,
I have 2 servers. If I uninstall and reinstall exchange on servers on by one, will I use configuration?

Is CU 3 really unsupported? It was supported 7 months ago when I created hybrid environment for migration. What happened ?

Nothing has happened. Microsoft's support lifecycle for Exchange 2013 is very clear. Current and previous CU only are supported.
I also don't think it was supported seven months ago either. Exchange 2013 CU3 was released in November 2013, seven months ago you should have been on either CU6 or at the earliest CU5.

"Reminder: Customers in hybrid deployments where Exchange is deployed on-premises and in the cloud, or who are using Exchange Online Archiving (EOA) with their on-premises Exchange deployment are required to deploy the most current (e.g., CU or the prior (e.g., CU7) Cumulative Update release.
