  • Adding Exchange 2010 DR site

    Hello everyone,

I'm looking to add an Exchange DR site to our existing Exchange 2010 configuration.

Our current system is as follows.
All servers are 2008R2 datercenter for the O/S (with all win updates installed)
    2 * DC,DNS
1 * Exchange 2010 sp3 CAS + HT (not setup in CAS ARRAY)
    1 * Exchange 2010 sp3 MBX (setup with 4 mailbox + 1 public folder stores)

(this is datacenter on VMWARE 5)

I have looked at the various ACTIVE/PASSIVE ACTIVE/ACTIVE...etc... options and am happy with these.....

BUT my question is....... If I implement a DR for exchange 2010, can I install the exchange servers onto server 2012R2 or does my DR site need to have the same operating system as the main site?

Thank you very much for any input.
    Regards
    Mark

Would also like to add...... when site HA is configured, does the CAS need to be in an ARRAY or not............?

Re: Adding Exchange 2010 DR site

If you are installing for a DAG, then the two nodes have to be identical.
      Same OS, same storage layout.

Windows 2012 R2 is not supported as a host for Exchange 2010.

If you don't have a CAS array, in the event of a failover event you have no way of getting the clients to talk to the second site. Therefore a CAS Array should be implemented immediately, and then start going round running a repair on the Outlook clients so they pick up the CAS array address.
