  • Domain Rename and update

    Hello Friends,

We have a network with the following...

    1 Domain (Ex: Domain.com)
    2 Dc's with 2003 R2
    5 Exchange 2007 Servers ( 2 CAS&HT + 2 MB + 1 ET ) with 2003 R2 OS

We need to Rename our Domain (Ex: NewDomain.com) and Upgrade the all servers to 2012, as well as upgrade the all Exchange 2007 Servers to Exchange 2013 servers.

Pls advice with your valuble suggestions.

    Thank you,
    Krishnakar.

    Re: Domain Rename and update

    Simply put, you can't.

Exchange 2007/10 do not support changing of the DNS domain name. Exchange 2003 did. None of these versions of Exchange supports changing of the NETBIOS domain name. Don't know about 2013 but I imagine it's the same.

Your only option if you must change the domain name is a new AD forest and then doing a cross-forest migration.

        Re: Domain Rename and update

Why do you need to rename the domain?
(if there is no real operational case for it, don't - then the upgrade will be fairly straightforward)
