  • DNS and Autodiscover

I am seeking advise relating to the recommended setup for Autodiscover.

I understand that autodiscover will attempt three different URLs:

    https://mydomain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
    https://autodiscover.mydomain.com/au...todiscover.xml
The third using a SRV locator pointing to the location of autodiscover

With that in mind, am I right in thinking the below are the correct requirements?

    SSL Cert contains:
    mail.mydomain.com
    autodiscover.mydomain.com

    External:
Autodiscover record autodiscover.mydomain.com pointing to mailserver public IP

    Internal:
Autodiscover record autodiscover.internaldomain.com pointing to autodiscover.mydomain.com

    OR

SRV record pointing autodiscover to autodiscover.mydomain.com

    Re: DNS and Autodiscover

If you are putting Autodiscover on to the SSL certificate then you don't need to use an SRV record at all.
In fact, you don't even need Autodiscover internally, unless you have clients on your internal network that are not members of the domain.

Internally you will need a split DNS, and then just configure Exchange to use the common name.
