  • Exchange 2010 - Credential Pop Up

I inherited an exchange 2010 server that has never been updated since 2010. The OS is windows 2008 SP2. All users running windows 7 with office 2007. After the updating exchange 2010 to the latest sp3 and rollups, builds and fixes, about half of the users are getting credential pop-ups. If I hit cancel on the pop-up and close outlook and reopen it connects to exchange server. It I enter {domain\username} and password it takes a few minutes and it connects to the server. If I close outlook and re-open outlook 5 or 10 minutes later it will prompt for credentials. I I restart the computer, it will prompt for credentials. If outlook 2007 is left open all day, there is NO credential pop ups. I am wondering what build or fix caused that problem.
Back up a little. After the updates, I had to fix the OWA, it was not routing correctly. OWA works for everyone. I have also done an IIS reset, so everything is defaulted.
I did the Test E-mail AutoConfiguration and it pass the tests.
We only have one domain and I use active directory.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

Have you tried to remove all the exchange related entries from credential manager accessible via the control panel on an effected desktop?
    Tried new outlook profiles?

Yes, I tried it on two PCs and even force a new password; no luck.

Authentication prompts don't always mean an issue with the authentication process.
The most common cause is actually SSL certificate issues. Outlook cannot always cope with SSL certificate prompts, so will throw an authentication prompt instead.

Does the server have a trusted SSL certificate on it? If not then you should deploy one. You will then need to adjust Exchange to use the trusted SSL certificate instead.

I solved my problem. Set it to NTLM and change all outlook users to use NTLM and no more pop-ups
