  • Sending e-mail from Exchange 2010

We have a brand new Exchange 2010 based mail server and need to send e-mail from a remote website and some internal apps (like backup tools, etc.). When we try to send e-mail from the remote website we get the following error:

Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay

    What shall we do?

Our network configuration is the most basic SBS 2011 can offer.

    Thanks,

    Alberto

SBS will not allow that to happen by default, so the behaviour you are seeing is correct.

If the remote applications can use TLS and authentication, then you can point the traffic at the Client Receive Connector which will allow relaying.
Otherwise you have to create a new Receive Connector.
