  • Random emails not shoowing up in a single user's inbox

    Hi there,
Have a rather interesting issue and I am wondering if anyone has experienced this?

I have a client with Exchange 2007, and a user moved across country. Not a problem - she is now connected to Exchange through a vpn connection on her system and/or RDP into a local PC that also has her Outlook profile setup.

Since the time of the move, however, clients have been randomly asking her why she had not responded to their email.

We discovered that many of the messages are not getting bounced back (the ones that did I was able to trace to the Exchange spam filter). The ones that simply did not "show up", however, I have looked at the following:

    - mailbox size and disabling/overriding the defaults regarding mailbox store size and delivery
    - Message tracking - Exchange shows as having delivered the messages

The only closely related issue I have seen was on this forum, and the solution ended up being rebuilding and migrating Exchange, which I know this client will not (easily) go for.

What do the logs say? Have you traced a specific email and seen exactly what happens to it?

If message tracking shows the messages were delivered, then the problem is most likely with the client. That could be Outlook, or it could be the user.

Rule number one in IT - Users LIE.

Check through OWA, and search the mailbox, deleted items etc. The message will be there somewhere. It could be removed by a third party utility as well, so check those.
