  • Exch 2003 coexistence with Exch 2010

I have Exch 2003 in the org. We are going to install new hware with Win 2008R2 with Exch 2010.
The plan is to do a coaxistence between Exch 2003 and Exch 2010.

As a guide, i go through the Exchange Server Deployment Assistant.
    My question:
    1. If i Configure Send Connector and delete the 2003 SMTP connector, wouldn't the current user of Exch 2003 have problem?
    2. Can the mailbox remain at Exch 2003 after configure Send Connector?
    3. Can some mailbox at Exch 2003 and some at Exch 2010?

    TQ

As long as you don't have a Smart Host on the SMTP virtual server of the Exchange 2003 server then you will be fine creating a Send Connector on the Exchange 2010 server. All email, from both servers will go out that way.

Mailboxes can remain where they are. You can have them spread over both servers.
What you cannot do though is give Exchange 2003 users the Exchange 2010 OWA. To get that they must use Exchange 2003 OWA.

One more thing i dont understand is, let say i already configure the Send Connector as below, but how about the firewall configuration.
Currently all Mail Services (pop3,imap) from Outside is foward to the Exch2003.

If i introduce Exch2010 in the environment, where should the Mail services foward to??

Don't chase - it isn't polite. People posting on the forum volunteer their time and most of them will have day jobs and a life that has to take priority. There are also time differences to take in to account. If you want quicker answers, hire a consultant.

For SMTP you can have the traffic go where you like, as Exchange will sort it out.
If you must use POP3/IMAP (personally I don't), then you should read this article on TechNet on proxy and redirection.
