  • Exchange 2007 altering from address when using SMTP

    All,

I hope some can help me out in this, I'm complety puzzled here.
Besides outlook (2007) clients, we also have applications running that send directly over SMTP through our Exchange 2007 server.
We use an existing emailaddress as the "from" address. However, that "from" address is not the default mailaddress:
email address configured in application: [email protected]
default mailaddress of that user: [email protected]
In my SMTP Receive log I see that the mail gets offered by the application server using [email protected], while the SMTP Send log shows me that the message is send out (to our spam firewall and from there onto the internet) using [email protected].
Can anyone point me in a direction where I might be able to change this automatic replacement of the "from" address with the default address?
    Thanks!

That is what Exchange does, and the behaviour cannot be changed.
As far as Exchange is concerned, all users only have one address - the default. All other addresses are aliases for INBOUND email only. If you want to send email with a different address you either need to move the address to another object, or don't use Exchange to send it.
