  • Exchange 2003 to 2010 Check Move All Replicas status?

    Hi,

We working on fully transitioning to Exchange 2010 from 2003. Currently I'm up to the step of "Transfer all public folder replicas to Exchange 2020 public folder store". For this step I've gone into ESM right clicked the public folder data store and selected Move All Replicas and have then selected the public folder database on 2010. Now it says that it will have done it when all of the folders inside of "Public Folder Instances" has gone. Currently it's been a day or 2 and the public folder instance folder shows System Public Folders. Is there anyway I can check that this is actually working like a status? I'm not seeing any errors in the event log on either server indicating a problem with public folders?

We do not use the public folders and what is in there looks to be less than 1MB. it shouldn't take this long?

If worst comes to the worst could I just delete the reference to the 2003 public folder store from ADSI and continue with the rest of the transition and would there be anything I should be aware of if I have to do this?

    Many Thanks, Richard

If everything has gone from Public Folder instances then that is all you need to worry about. Drop the public folder store and choose another one when prompted.

Currently there is still stuff inside of the public folder instances. These look like system public folders and are

      exchangeV1
      Microsoft
      OAB Version 2
      OAB Version 3a
      OAB Version 4
Offline Address Book - /o=DOMAINNETBIOSNAME/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List
Schedule+ Free Busy Information - first administrative group
      schema-root
      StoreEvents-{D0E2A6B4-6CE5-4CD4-B664-931C6178339F}

It's been a few days and these have still not disappeared. I have tried to delete the public address store but it would not let me as there is still stuff inside of it. It would be nice if I could find some sort of status to say if this is really doing stuff or not?

      Kind Regards, Richard White

Just repeat the move all replica step in ESM - the content will go eventually, it just takes times. Unfortuantely there isn't an easy way to speed it up, so you have to be patient.

I have noticed one thing in the event log that might be an indicator as to why it's not working. I've noticed a few 1020 event id's for the MSExchange Store Driver which are happening under the 2010 server?

          Event ID: 1020
          Description:
The store driver couldn't deliver the public folder replication message "Status Request ([email protected])" because the following error occurred: The process failed to get the correct properties..

Wow that was a test of patience.
Woke up today and all the stuff has gone from the public folder instances!

I don't worry unless nothing is happening for a week. Public folder replication is very conservative.
