  • Installing Exchange 2010 after Exchange 2013

I have an environment that currently has an Exchange 2013 in place. This was the first exchange installation in the ad forest and the only one thus far.

I would like to install an Exchange 2010 SP3 server in the same environment to prepare for migrating some legacy non-microsoft accounts too, as the legacy platform doesn't support Exchange 2013. After that is done, I can then migrate the accounts from the 2010 server to the 2013 dag.

My question is, is it allowed to add an Exchange 2010 server in the same forest where an existing Exchange 2013 deployment lives??

    Cannot be done.
The Exchange 2013 setup would have warned you. If Exchange 2013 was the first Exchange server that is the oldest one that can be installed.

You will need a new forest for Exchange 2010 support.
