  • Outlook Hangs / Crashes On External Contacts

    Hello all.
Need a little help with an Outlook/Lync issue.
Our company is running Exchange 2007 with Outlook 2010 and Lync 2010 on the clients.
I have a user that is having a problem with his Outlook hanging and crashing when the email he is trying to view or forward has several external addresses in the CC or BCC field.
What we have come up with so far is how Outlook integrates with Lync to show the presence for recipient. It is resolving the internal contacts just fine. The externals seem to the problem. If you sign out of Lync and terminate the program, problem no longer occurs.
On the Outlook side, if you turn off "Display online status next to name", this also stops the problem. (see attachment)
This only seems to be happening to him. We have tried having him sign into a different computer, same issue. So it has something to do with that specific email or one or more of the address.
He has no problem with any emails that have only internal recipients.
This link, http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...-5928da7b49e3/ seems to explain the problem we are having with no resolve due to working as designed.
Any other input would be great.
    Thanks

Presumably the presence status shows fine in Lync for these external contacts though just not in the Outlook UI? If so start by enabling logging in both the Lync and Outlook clients. The logs are likely to yield some information client side that may be causing the issue.
If external contacts presence status doesn't show correctly in Lync then its likely this issue may be firewall related assuming federation with the target domain is in place.
