  • Autodiscover external username

I've just set up our new SBS 2011 server and everything is working great for the most part.

My only issue is that when a new account is set up in Outlook the autodiscover gets the settings and then asks for the username and password. If I put in domain\user and the password it works great. If I try to use their email address it's rejected.

I know I've gotten this to work once before with Exchange 2010 on 2008 R2 (not sbs) before but for the life of me I can't remember how.

It sounds to me like you need to create a User Principal Name suffix that matches the domain suffix of the email address and set that as the UPN suffix on your user accounts. An email address can't be used to authenticate to AD but a UPN can. If the UPN suffix matches the domain suffix of the email address then users can essentially use their "email address" to log in.
