  • The delegate "private" permission

    Hi,

We want to ensure that any emails sent internally that are marked "private" cannot be viewed by the delegate. This works well when the delegate permission is removed but if the delegate has full mailbox permissions then they can circumvent the privatacy by logging into the outlook web app and then opening another mailbox.

Our PA's are the ones that have the full mailbox permission which allows them to have the mailbox in outlook for them to work. Outlook in this scenareau honours the private tage on emails/calendar/contacts etc.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

We are using Exchange 2010 SP2 and outlook 2007 SP3.

Full mailbox means what it says.
The only way round this is to remove Full Mailbox and grant permissions on the folders. A user with permissions at the folder level cannot see Private items.

    The choice is quite clear.

Full Mailbox - see everything, but one permission to set.
Per folder permission - doesn't see Private, but needs to be set on each folder.

    Simon.

      Re: The delegate "private" permission

      Thanks Simon.

If we set the permissions on the folder level but we cannot add the mailbox to outlook for the PA to manage their emails.

If they have full permission then we can add the mailbox and they cannot see any item marked private. I think this is what is causing the confusion.

Is there a way of diabling the "open other mailbox" function in the outlook web app?

You can open the mailbox in Outlook when granting permissions at the folder level.
You just have to add an additional permission.
