  • outlook 2010 popups asking credentials or smartcard

    Hi ,

i have a problem with outlook 2010 in a sbs 2011 and a on different location with sbs 2008

    first the sbs 2011 problem:
using a self signed ssl certificate
whenever a user start outlook it keeps asking for the username and password, for all users on all machines.
disable outlook over https solves the problem untill a reboot.

i have already did a search but none of the solutions found gives me answer
tried a gpo to disable the outlook over https, changed iis settings to ignore client certificates

    at the sbs 2008 site:
    also outlook 2010
the problem is there since this week, before they never had any popups asking for credentials
there is Comodo SAN ssl certificate installed , with the names:
    autodiscover.domain.com remote.domain.com srvname.internal.local

also here found differtent solutions like it could be some windows updates
but the strange thing is, that not all the users are having this problem
    and it is random.

    anybode any ideas?

    thx

Re: outlook 2010 popups asking credentials or smartcard

The use of the self signed certificate isn't really recommended. The reason the problem appears to come back is that Autodiscover corrects it.
If you instist on using the self signed certificate then use the tool on the SBS server to install it on the client workstation correctly.

Although disabling Outlook Anywhere shouldn't be required. Outlook will only use HTTPS if it cannot connect via TCP/ Therefore disabling Outlook ANywhere only deals with the symptom, not the cause.

SSL certificate issues are the most common reason for authentication prompts. Browsing to the site to confirm if you get SSL prompts can show if there is a problem.

has the certificate expired at the SBS2008 site ?
Also - are all computers domain members ? I know I've had next to no success in making non-domain members allow you to connect to exchang without prompting for password,e ven when "Save password" is ticked
