  • Moving Exchange 2007 SP2 to a New Physical Location (New AD Site)

    Hello All,
We are currently moving our email servers from Site A to Site B (separate physical locations) - (AD Site A and Site B)
I am tasked with physically moving all exchange servers from this Data Center (A) to Data Center (B).
We have 3 Exchange 2007 SP2 Single Copy Cluters
Each cluster host about 10 databases of about 300GB each.
2 CAS, 2 Hub and 2 Edge transport servers
All databases are replicated to a storage in Site B but has no Exchange servers there.
Is there any MS recommended way of doing this as the AD site is changing as well as the VLAN/IP addresses?
What do I have to look out for (process/instructions) so exchange comes up smoothly at the new location?
    Thanks
    CAD

Re: Moving Exchange 2007 SP2 to a New Physical Location (New AD Site)

I am not aware of any Microsoft prescribed method for this.
I have done it before and it is largely troublefree. When I move servers which involves an IP address change, I always shutdown and disable the Exchange services before moving the server.
Then, when in the new location the server is brought up, checked it is in the site correctly and rebooted. The services are then switched back to automatic and the server rebooted again.

Exchange 2007 SP2 is very old, I would also recommend an upgrade to Exchange 2007 SP3 with the latest rollup.

    Simon.

      Thanks Simon,
Does the site change occurs automatically after the IP changes or have to be done manually?
      Cheers

As long as you have sites and services setup in AD correctly, then the server will know what site it is in. No manual intevention (I don't even think you can set it manually).
