  • Exchange 2010 Email Encryption

    Hi all.

Has anyone setup email encryption when using exchange 2010 so that email messages leaving the organisation be encrypted while travelling between systems for a select number of remote systems.

For example, I want to send an email to 2 different recipents([email protected] and [email protected]), one will will travel by the normal smtp port 25 routes, BUT the other will leave the exchange org onto the internet and be encrypted while traveling the internet.

    Hope this makes sense.

Any hints or setup methods will be greatly received.

    Regards
    Mark Jones

      Hi

Cheers for the post, but I've already seen that one, and it's base on Exchange 2000/3, i'm looking for the same kind of setup but for EXchange 2010.
      Regards

PS as far as i'm aware SMTP Virtual servers don't exist in exchange 2010.

        Re: Exchange 2010 Email Encryption

If the other side supports it, then you can use TLS and enforce the use of TLS using Send Connectors. However that is not something that you can do standalone, the recipient has to support TLS.

This is the guide from Microsoft, but adjust it to use a commercial SSL certificate, it does not require the use of Edge, despite how the instructions may read.

Otherwise you are looking at something third party, which also means there is an issue with unencrypting it at the other end.

          Hi SemBee,

Would I be correct in thinking, I can create an additional send connecter for the end users domainname and FORCE TLS on this connecter only, there not effecting other mail delivery via smart host?

          Kind Regards

            Re: Exchange 2010 Email Encryption

That is how it usually works. As long as you put the specific domain in the Connector, Exchange should use the closest match first. The article I have linked to gives you all of the information you need.
