  • restore exchagne 2010 backup onto an exchange 2007 server

I've got a 2010 Exchange server running live. I've got another (older) 2007 Sp3 Exchange Server just hanging around. In the event that the 2010 crashes, I'd like to be able restore the mailboxes onto the 2007 from a Windows Server Backup copy of the 2010 exchange.

I've done some googling around but I'm not having any luck in finding out if it is even possible. And if it is, how. I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

    Thanks

AFAIK there were enough changes to the Exchange 2010 database architecture to make them incompatible:

But if you have a spare server, why not install 2010 on it -- leave it in evaluation mode until you need it and then re-use your main licenses.

Awesome Idea. The old server is an SBS. Think there will be any problems putting 2010 on it?

Yes... one or two... (assuming it is SBS 2008 )
Note you will have enough other problems bringing up an SBS server in a non-SBS domain as it sulks if it is not the main server in the domain)
