  • REJECTED - Bad HELO - Host impersonating

    Morning all,

Can't for the life of me work out why I'm getting this bounce from exchange 2010.

    pluto.speedyservers.com gave this error:
    #550 "REJECTED - Bad HELO - Host impersonating [remote.mydomain.com]" ##

Only get it from 2 domains, checked my MX records, rDNS & SPF is ok... & MXToolbox doesn't report any issues...
Any ideas what I should look into next??

    Many thanks

    Dave

Re: REJECTED - Bad HELO - Host impersonating

I would think by looking at that that you have some sort of remote system that uses the same IP address as your external exhange server.

          Check your DNS records.

Re: REJECTED - Bad HELO - Host impersonating

            Thanks for your reply,

Sorry I don't quite understand what you are getting at 'remote' is the sub domain pointing at the external ip, DNS looks absolutely fine, MX points to an A record, A record points to static external address. MX toolbox reports all green...

            Many thanks

Re: REJECTED - Bad HELO - Host impersonating

Is this an email originating from your server, or are you forwarding from another?
Do you have SPF records setup? Are they setup correctly?

The error is being generated by the other side, probably as part of some antispam measure, which either means you haven't got your DNS configured correctly (lack of PTR etc) or their system is blocking everything or has another problem.

              Simon.

Re: REJECTED - Bad HELO - Host impersonating

Finally beginning to make some headway on this now...

Been chatting to a tech at the hosting company, all domains in question are hosted with the same company, all use internal mail servers except mine. When I try to send an email in the receiving mail server thinks that my mail server is spoofing because its and external IP address but a domain that is listed locally.....

The only resolution I have so far is move my hosting to another company....

The saga goes on, I'll try and keep this updated......

                Dave

                EDIT:

All sorted now, in the hosting control panel someone had created a 'remote' sub-domain & recreated all the email addresses on the exchange server. Why, I have no idea but no ones admitting to it.... ah well eventually found the answer...
