  • Exchange 2007: One user appears in the GAL but not the OAB

Have an organization with Exchange 2007 sitting on a Windows 2003 box, and it is the single server in the organization. I have a problem where a relatively new user (of several months) is not appearing the OAB even though he appears in the GAL. When I test with my own account using offline and online mode within Outlook, his name appears or disappears depending on whether I am query the GAL or the OAB. I have read that this happens when the email address listed in AD is different to the primary smtp address given in Exchange, but that is not the case here. Also, this is not a problem with two much information associated with his AD object as I checked as he does not have published certificates, or very much else for that matter. Hope someone can advise on this. Thanks

Do other users that have been created in the meantime appear?
Have you tried to force the OAB to regenerate?

    get-offlineaddressbook | update-offlineaddressbook

If you delete the OAB files on your workstation (with Outlook shutdown) and then open Outlook so they are downloaded fresh, does the user appear then?

The users are not aware of other accounts also not showing in the OAB.

Regenerating the address book would require an RFC unfortunately so I would prefer to not start with that, although I will if I have to do that.

I created a new mail profile and I could see the user until I shut down Outlook and put it into cached mode, and then he disappeared. The problem appears to bin in the central OAB, not in the local copy of individuals. Like I say, his AD user object does not seem overburdened with data, I don't know why he is not being picked up by the OAB.

You need an RFC to run that command?
How do you work with Exchange every day if you need an RFC to run a simple basic command?

A new profile doesn't always mean that the OAB files were recreated correctly, which is why it is important that you remove the files from the machine.

Although single user issues I rarely spend more than about 10 minutes on, before creating a new user, moving everything across and forwarding to the new account.
