  • Setting default "From Field" to that of a mail enabled public folder

    Hi,

We have a mail enabled public folder that we use to receive incoming queries for different departments (sales, technical, etc) and I would like to configure the Outlook 2010 clients for each person in those departments to send, by default, from [email protected] or [email protected] for example.

I have seen articles on how to try to achieve this through macros, or through multiple accounts, I am just struggling to apply this to a mail enabled public folder so would be grateful for any help.

    Many thanks

As far as I am aware, it isn't possible to do what you want to do.
Your best option would be to abandon it as a public folder and use a shared mailbox instead. In Outlook 2010 configure the shared mailbox as the defualt and their personal mailbox as secondary. All users would need Full Mailbox and Send As permissions.

    Simon.

      Hi Simon,

Thank you very much for replying. Guess I'm out of luck trying to do it my way

Would you happen to have any recommended links that I could follow so that I can see a) how I transition from a mail enabled public folder to a shared mailbox and b) the steps I should follow, once transitioned, to set up the default from field?

Edit : I can Google them, it was more to ask if you had come across any articles that you would recommend as being particularly useful.

Thanks again for your help, and for taking the time to reply.

      Kindest regards

There is nothing that I am aware of that goes through your exact scenario.
        There isn't much to it.
Create the new shared mailbox, grant the permissions, move the email addresses, move the content.
As long as the account is the default account in Outlook, it will be the default account in the From field.
