    hello,
we have exchange 2007 sp2 with a 46GB mailbox database.edb and 9GB tmp.edb. I have archived mail in all mailboxes but the size has increased from 40gb to 46gb. should I be concerned about this?

    Re: Database size

Assuming you have enough drive space, no
Exchange does not shrink databases, just marks empty space and re-uses it for new content.

If your licensing allows, consider moving mailboxes to a new (empty) database and dropping the old one - that will free up space for you

Just to add, if you feel that the database space is not being re-used as the database is still growing, review the Deleted item retention policy as space will be re-used for deleted messages once it is past that threshold.
