  • Backup of Database on Passive DAG Member using WSB in 2008R2

    Hi,

I have read that if you use Windows Server Backup in Server 2008R2 to backup Exchange DAG members, you can perform backups on the passive member of the DAG?

    http://www.curuit.com/how-to-backup-...e-20100822463/

    http://www.howexchangeworks.com/2010...g-windows.html

    My scenario is this:

2 x Exchange 2010 Servers (each in a seperate AD Site) running a single mailbox database in a DAG.

The primary site will always be the active DAG member, but we wish to perform the backups in the secondary site (ie backup the passive copy of the database).

In this scenario, will backing up the passive copy of the database clear the transaction logs on the primary server?

    Thanks

Log truncation usually occurs on the active copy of the DB. WSB IIRC will mark the DB as backed up and truncate the logs. Logically i can't see why it wouldn't work but it depends largely on WSB which to be honest is quite a rudimentary backup solution.
