  • Disabled Exchange 2010 rule still working

    Hi,

I set up a rule within the Hub Transport area of an Exchange 2010 server to forward emails to another exchange email account. I have since disabled that rule, but some emails still forward to that email account as if that rule was still enabled! How is that possible?

How can I check what rule was used to forward an email to a particular account?

    Thank you.

Did you restart Transport Service after disabling the rule?

Yes, in fact I have restarted it and the server several times since I disabled and even deleted the rule.

That isn't something I have seen before. Have you checked the account to confirm that there isn't a forward in the AD properties - the other way of forwarding? Confirmed there isn't a rule in the mailbox?

I have found the cause, embarrasingly! It was set up individually in Exchange for the few users it still happens for.

However, I will add that for a while it was forwarding emails to that account based on the deleted rule, and it seemed to "wind down" over a period of a few weeks, as emails were definitely forwarding there based on that rule. Only three users had it set specifically for them. So still very strange.

Thanks for your time to look at this, case closed.
