  • DR setup with multiple sites

We have over 40 user sites spread out across the country and currently have Exchange in one central AD site with no users. I am in the process of setting up a DR site that also has no users in it. How can I set the Service Connection points for Autodiscover to weight the first CAS array and then the second CAS array? I want users connecting to the Main CAS array unless the site goes down.

Re: DR setup with multiple sites

    You can't.
Databases can only have one RPC CAS Array assigned to them.
In the event of a site failure, you have two options.
    1. Change the DNS entry.
    2. Have your third party load balancer redirect the traffic.

The whole point of the RPC CAS Array is that nothing changes on the client when there is a failover, the clients continue to point to the same host name. It is something at the backend that redirects the traffic to the correct place (DNS change or load balancer).

sort of offtopic, but on the same track.

Is that something that would be useful for exchange, or that we could ever see? (and i know, you aren't the Exchange team....)

Some sort of dns weighting, like an MX record works, for CAS hostnames ?

I am not aware of anything like that in the work, because most sites that have multiple CAS Servers want load balancing as well.
