  • Managed folder policy for deleted items

Every example I see for setting up a managed folder policy on Exchange 2007 for deleted items picks "delete and allow recovery" instead of "permanently delete" for the action.

Clearly the first is more conservative but if you were trying to reduce the size of the store (or slow growth) wouldn't "permanently delete" be better?

Is there some reason why it wouldn't be a good choice?

The normal reason is users have a nasty habit of demanding the email back after the policy has deleted them.
Allow recovery means less visits to the backup library
