  • Co-existence between 2003/2010 - Mailboxes on 2003 server rpc/http issue

    Hi

Went for the big swap over this weekend of making my exchange 2010 server my internet facing server and it went reasonably well except for mailboxes still on the exchange 2003 server continually asks for a password when connected via RPC/HTTP remotley, a test mailbox on the 2010 server initially asked but only once before it connected.

I have followed the steps of redirecting OWA with the script, editing kerberos authentication to 6 in ADSIEdit for active sync, Disabling RPC-HTTP on the exchange 2003 server and exporting the UNC certificate from the 2010 server to the 2003.

Everything else is working including internal to LAN, OWA and active sync to mailboxes on the old 2003 server and the new 2010.
Anyone any ideas as I am totally stuck.

    Thanks

RPC over HTTPS / Outlook Anywhere is proxied by Exchange 2010, rather than redirected. Therefore the problem is most likely with the Exchange 2003 server. The usual cause would be an authentication issue.

What I usually recommend is that you disable RPC over HTTPS in Exchange 2003 using the GUI (so set it to not part of a topology, or whatever the option is). Then run IISRESET.
Then enable it again, setting it as a backend server on the same tab. You will need to wait 15 - 20 minutes for Exchange to set it all up. Then test again.

      Hi Simon

      Thanks for replying

I did have the radio button "Not Part of an exchange managed RPC-HTTP topology" but I cannot remember if I reset IIS and I did not enable it again. what does this do by enabling it again?

Opened a technet call with microsoft and they have advised to delete the vdir within IIS on the 2003 server - seemed a bit definitive especially if I need to roll back after testing
