  • Xchg 2007 don't receive external mail

Hello, I have a problem with xchg 2007 mail server in my domain. Yesterday I turned off the server (it is the only mail server in our company). We have 2 sites, one in Milan and one in Florence connected in a MPLS with an Internet Gate configured from our ISP. Yesterday ISP inverted internal IP and external IP in this 2 sites. After turned off the server I moved it in other sites. After turned on the server, it didn't receive any mail form external domain. no change on internal DNS. Mx record is correctly. This afternoon I received an email on my private address regarding "Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed".

How can I solve the problem?

    Some additional Information:

Site 1: mail server IP 172.16.0.1 public IP 85.43.244.21
    internal dns 172.16.0.1

Site 2: dc server 172.16.1.1 internal DNS 172.16.1.1

Site 2: mail server IP 172.16.0.1 public IP 85.43.244.21
    internal dns 172.16.0.1

Site 1: dc server 172.16.1.1 internal DNS 172.16.1.1

I can send mail to all existent domain.

    Thks in advance

    Sorry for my english.

Re: Xchg 2007 don't receive external mail

    uhm.
If I try and open a connection to 85.43.244.21 port 25 (smtp port) it tells me "no more telnet connections are allowed to this port"

I've tried several times now, just to ensure I'm not typing the address or port incorrectly.

what this tells me, is the ISP, or your network admins, aren't correctly forwarding ports.
Could you please ensure that port 25 on your public address, is forwarding to port 25 on your internal server (and not port 23, as I suspect)

Re: Xchg 2007 don't receive external mail

Hi, thanks for your reply. I think the problem is on firewall of ISP. I used tlntadmin to check telnet settings on mail server and the result is:

Alt Key Mapped to 'CTRL+A' : YES
Idle session timeout : 1 hours
      Max connections : 2
      Telnet port : 25
Max failed login attempts : 3
End tasks on disconnect : YES
      Mode of Operation : Console
      Authentication Mechanism : NTLM, Password
      Default Domain : WAL*****
      State : Running

      Our MPLS is so configured:

Any site have 2 routers (property of ISP) configured with phisycal address. Virtual address is default gateway. The routers have a NAT that point ISP internetGATE configured by ISP.

Lan -> router -> internet gate with firewall -> internet

      Thks

From the limited information above, your exchange server appears to be in a different subnet to the local DC, which will cause problems
Can you please post an IPCONFIG/ALL from the mail server and the DC in the same site

Re-reading the original post, you have mail servers at both sites and, unless it is a typo, both have the same private and public IP addresses!

Can you elaborate a bit more on the roles on each server and, as requested, an IPCONFIG/ALL for both of them

              site 5: MI4 172.16.14.1 DC, dns server

              replication in AD works correctly

Re: Xchg 2007 don't receive external mail

Now, works correctly. I found (but I don't remember where) an article where if you put off line a mail server without another mail server, you have some problem with DNS.

Thanks at everyone for the support
