  • Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010

I have an Exchnage 2007 server now and would like to migrate to an Exchange 2010 server. After I build the new Exchange server and remove the old Exchange 2007 server is it possible to rename the new Exchange server to the old Exchnage 2007 Computer name? I would like to use the old Server name for the new Exchange 2010 server. Will I run into any issues by doning this?

You can't rename a Exchange server after Exchange is installed without breaking the Exchange functionality.

If you want your Exchange 2010 having the same name as the old Exchange 2007 you have to use a swinging server and move mailboxes one more time.

Exchange 2007 --> Exchange 2010 (swinging server) --> Exchange 2010 (old server name)

It's up to you if the use of the old name is so important that your migration includes another step.

That's what I figured. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
