  • Exchange 2010 Not receiving mail.

    Hi all,

I have setup up two exchange servers. One running transportation and web access and another hosting the mailbox and etc. I followed this guide and changed it a little for the different servers. I can send and receive mail from internally perfectly! along with sending out to external domains such as gmail, hotmail and etc...

Receiving mail from external domains is the problem! I have done numerous google searches and they say port 25 is open(which it is) then do a Telnet to the domain in cmd to port 25. the telnet connection connects perfectly. It then displays all the ESMTP header and etc.

    My domain is -
Server 2008r2 with 1 DC, 1 Web(running OWA and transport along with Remote desktop Remote app gateway and the webpages), 1 Mail and a RemoteDesktop server.

Any idea why it's not receiving mail ?

    Thanks in advanced,

    Ajw901

    Have you
    a) configured accepted domains and appropriate recipient policies?
    b) configured MX records on your public DNS server?

      Hi,

configured accepted domains and appropriate recipient policies?
Yes I have checked these. Double checked and tripled checked! they're how it said to be on that guide.

configured MX records on your public DNS server?
Yes, the MX records all point to the correct places such as the IP address of the server.

Are you testing telnet from outside your router or inside?

What (if any) error message do you get when trying to send?

Hi, telnet if from outside the router, from a mobile dongle and the pc isn't connected to the domain.

The error from GMail attempts are -

The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect. Learn more at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...py?answer=7720

Possibly a silly question, but is GMail the only place you have tried sending from?

Re: Exchange 2010 Not receiving mail.

              Hi,

I think the last post got deleted ?

The telnet is out side of the domain on a mobile dongle, computer not attached to the domain. The message give me a "The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect. Learn more at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...py?answer=7720
              [DOMAIN.com. (0): Connection timed out]"

I have tried it on other accounts just to make sure the gmail domain isn't been blocked. I have tried from Hotmail and a different domain and they to aren't coming through. I have ran a test on testexchnageconnectivity.com and they say the MX records are fine and it can translate it into a ip. It then goes on to fail at the last stage.

Testing TCP port 25 on host DOMAIN.com to ensure it's listening and open.
The specified port is either blocked, not listening, or not producing the expected response.
Tell me more about this issue and how to resolve it

              Additional Details
A network error occurred while communicating with the remote host.
Note - my domain isn't really called DOMAIN.com i've just changed it.

Checked (well, double checked) and Windows firewall?

Re: Exchange 2010 Not receiving mail.

More than double checked! firewall is disabled on all profiles (Domain, Private and so on). The only thing which has just clicked in my mind.

I have RDGateway installed on the same server. Do you think some how, gateway is blocking the traffic which should be going to Exchange ??

Re: Exchange 2010 Not receiving mail.

Its actually against best practise to disable the firewall. How did you disable it? Did you stop the services as well?

Are you running multiple ISPs? Correct default gateway?
Does it work internally? Have you done a full telnet test including sending the email?

                    Simon.

Re: Exchange 2010 Not receiving mail.

It sounds remarkably like there's a problem with the firewall rule.

When you try and telnet from the outside to your mx record on port 25, does it open up ? Do you get a banner?

If you'd like to provide the domain, I could test this for you.
