  • Exchange 2010 Recovery, Cannot Delete Server

I made a terrible mistake by just remove an offline exchange 2010 server and threw away the VHD as well, no backup.

I was able to install Exhange 2010 by installing a new 2008r2 server with same name. Setup /m:RecoverServer. This worked , i was able to recover it.
But it did not recover the maildatabase obviously.
So now i cannot unstall the mail database because it is dismounted, and i cannot dismount it. Also create a new one is not possible due to the unique name.
Question is, how can i create a new database with the same ID or how can i remove the database (last one in the org) while it does not exist.

Tried following via Console and PowerShell without success.
I hope someone can help me, just want to this one server out of my environment.

The mailbox database 'Mailbox Database 0146895799' cannot be deleted.

you may be able to do a metadata cleanup to remove the relevant data from the schema..

I don't understand what you mean by saying that you cannot create a new database. Does it give a reason why you cannot mount the database? The new server needs to be identical in layout, file directories etc.

Re: Exchange 2010 Recovery, Cannot Delete Server

Thank you for your reply Simon,
Forget about the create database, i justr want to get rid of this one exchange server in my org, jus cannot deinstall it because the uninstaller wizard needs the non excisting mailbox database. If i cannot deinstall it properly it will remain in the exchange org, it is not doing any harm i think just want to remove it.

Re: Exchange 2010 Recovery, Cannot Delete Server

Two possible ways I can think of:

          1. Just create that missing mailbox database.
          2. Delete the database using ADSI edit.

Both should provide the ability to finaly deinstall the server.

Re: Exchange 2010 Recovery, Cannot Delete Server

Finally it worked, re created the missing mailbox.
Then followed this link -> http://muc-ug.org.in/index.php/how-t...mailboxes.html
After that i had to remove the move requests via the exchange management console.

            Thanks guys !
