As displayed in error you should check with your ISP in order to relay the ip

Sounds like your ISP is blocking port 25, which is not uncommon on home dsl.

Could you not just send direct rather than using an smtp relay? Even if you just turn it off for a little while to test?

I think the point is that the ISP is blocking Port 25, so direct send it out of the question, but will offer a relay/smart host (presumably for the "right price")

            I have to disagree there.
If the ISP was blocking the port, you wouldn't get any error message. For the NDR to be returned the server has to connect to a remote SMTP server, and I haven't seen an ISP run an SMTP server simply to block the port.

I think this is a remote recipient's server rejecting the email simply because the OP is sending from a residential connection. Even if the IP address is semi-static, it is unlikely to be accepted.

The OP will need to relay their email through their ISPs SMTP server as a smart host for delivery, and if on a dynamic IP address use a dynamic DNS service to keep the host name up to date.

If the OP is on a truly static IP address then ask the ISP to set a PTR on the IP address to match the A record host name used in the MX record. Then they should be able to send email to more places. However if in a residential IP range, even with a static address, the email will be rejected by some locations.

Simply put, on a residential connection, route through the ISPs SMTP server, or use a third party mail hop service.

Looks like you're right sembee, but it's an odd way to word the NDR in that case, IMO at least. Not that most NDRs are in any way RFC 3463 complaint these days.

Your ISP is trying to sell you a business class connection. It will be identical to what you have now, just with a static IP address and a bigger bill.

Your ISPs SMTP server may well be all that you need. Just look for their outbound SMTP server in the instructions for Outlook Express etc and use that. Don't call support as they will just hear Exchange or Server, say you aren't supported and put the phone down.
