  • Remove public folders

    Hi Guys,

I am in the process of transitioning from EX07 to EX10 - I have already created Mailbox Databases on the new EX10 machine and moved all user's mailboxes, however these new Mailbox Databases were configured automatically to use the Public Folders Database (on the EX07 machine) as their default PF.

I have no use for PF - all my users are outlook 2007, how do I get rid of them?

    Re: Remove public folders

Remove all replicas, change the OAB generation and distribution not to use public folders, remove the Public Folder setting from the database configuration. Then delete anything left in the public folder store and delete the store.

Are you using BES? That still depends on public folders unless you have switched it to use web services.

    Simon.

      Re: Remove public folders

      Hi Simon,

No BES, OAB generation changed + web distribution.

How do I remove the Public Folder setting from the database configuration?...

      EDIT:

This is what I get when I run Get-PublicFolder -Server <server containing the public folder database> "\" -Recurse -ResultSize:Unlimited:

      Name Parent Path
      ---- -----------
      IPM_SUBTREE
      Internet Newsgroups \

(Needless to say, "Internet Newsgroups" is empty).

Anyone can help me with that?... How do I remove the Public Folder setting from the database configuration? From the management console it will only let me change to a different PF.

          Re: Remove public folders

Sorry, that was wrong information from me. You don't remove the public folder database from the configuration of the mailbox database. I was thinking of something else.
Once you have removed the database it should be removed the database configuration as well.

Microsoft appeared to have removed or renamed all of their Technet articles on how to remove the last public folder database, the closest I can get is this blog posting:
