  • Backup and restoring of exchange 2007

I need to take the backup of my configuration and current mailbox database back up of a live server so that i can use it on a new server if the live server fails ya restore to the live server..

    How is it done?

Copying the edb file to a separate location will be enough?

    Nope.

    NTBackup should do it.

Jabroni, you really need to get some Exchange training.
While 2010 has "portable" databases, 2007 does not, so it is absolutely NOT a case of "using it on a new server". Run, do not walk to and do some serious research on "Exchange 2007 recovery"

You need to review your whole backup and DR strategy and what downtime is acceptable, then plan accordingly.

btw, NTBackup is on Server 2003 only, 2008 has something different and again has problems with Exchange 2007

Re: Backup and restoring of exchange 2007

Exchange 2007 does have the option to port mailbox databases between servers as long as the servers are in the same organization.

        Check the following links:
        http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...CHG.80%29.aspx
        http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/...x-servers.html

But this does not replace the need for a solid backup and restore plan.
