    Re: Changing of Administrator password..

Exchange doesn't care about the administrator password. It doesn't use that account unless it has been badly setup.
However you would need to audit all servers and all services to see whether it has been used anywhere. If it has, then change the account to a special service account created for each service or service group with strong passwords. Then once complete, change the password.

In correctly configured environment it shouldn't matter.

        Jabroni,
Since you are quite new to Exchange, can I strongly recommend you get yourself some training (classroom, book or video) to give you the basic skills you need to manage it effectively.

Obviously everyone here will help as much as they can, but there is a learning curve you will need to go through sometime, and sooner is normally better than later.

Auditing accounts: Go into Server Manager and check the account the different services are under, then document it for future reference
Restores: Are you using 2007 or 2010 as the process has differences, but essentially, if the computer account in Active Directory is intact, build a new server with the same name and account. While you are at it, check and TEST your backups!
Backups: What software are you using to back up Exchange?

            Re: Changing of Administrator password..

ask your system administrator what he is currently using, before he leaves.

a good system administrator should have plenty of handover doucmentation to give you on how the system is setup, and critical things like the backups.

You can't just go out and buy and install backup software - you need all sorts of planning...

I asked him ,He just follows the way of copying the mailbox database files to an external drive. He doesn't know how to back up the configuration.

                uhm..

Dependent on the size of your environment, I'd suggest backup exec, with an LTO4/5 drive.
However, you'd need to do more than just take my word on what to do.

Do some research on backup, including rotation systems, then decide compeltely what you need to do.. then design the solution.

If you want to come back with some specific questions I'd be happy to answer them..

                  Re: Changing of Administrator password..

To be honest, it sounds like you need to bring in some external assistance. A good consultant will look at your system and ensure it is configured correctly.
Copying files to an external drive is not a valid backup of Exchange, and will be close to useless for restorations. Exchange isn't designed to be used in that way.

It looks to me like the entire environment needs a review from someone experienced to ensure it is working correctly. If the previous administrator thought that the backup method outlined was correct, I wonder what else is wrong.

That is completely unrelated to your original question. I suggest that you start a new question rather than trying to ask lots of things in a single question.
