  • Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner

    Setup as follows:
Exchange 2010 SP1. Send and Receive connectors are configured with the correct string (mail.company.com) on all containers.
Last week contacted ISP and changed the A and PTR records (to match the above string) for public IP address.
    Still getting the same warning.
I know I can live with it but just wondering why and what else I've missed?

    Thanks in advance

Usually means the NAT is wrong.
The traffic is coming out of the firewall on a different IP address to the one that you think it is. Use one of the tools to see your IP address form the server itself.

You don't need to set the FQDN on the Receive Connector, just the Send Connector is the critical one.

Presumably when you telnet to your bridgehead from the internet it displays the correct FQDN? Have you restarted the MS Exchange Transport service?

That doesn't help with diagnostics though.

Inbound traffic is answered by the RECEIVE connector, which can be a different FQDN to the Send Connector.

Are you getting this error in the BPA?

Sorry for the late reply on this one.
Just managed to get to the bottom of this.
The culprit was an esmtp inspection policy on the ASA that was masking the banner.

            Thanks for the input though.
