  • Downgrading from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2007

One of our clients recently requested their own Exchange server, and we deployed a single Exchange 2010 SP1 server for them.

For inexplicable reasons, the client now wants to downgrade from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2007.

Is this possible? From what I understand there are significant differences in the schema.

Can we deploy the Exch2007 server in co-existance with 2010, then simply uninstall the 2010 server?

    Any help appreciated.

If it was greenfield and you went straight to Exchange 2010, then you are stuck with it. You would have to rebuild the forest and domain to support Exchange 2007.

You could only go back if Exchange 2007 was originally installed.

Thank you for the quick response, very helpful.
I guess this is a redundant question but the same would go for Exchange 2003, right?

IMHO have a long discussion with the client about WHY they want to downgrade, and try to persuade them the newer version IS actually better.

If they insist, you might want to also invest in a set of 5 year old used cars to exchange for their current newer ones
