  • Migrate from Exchange 2003 to 2010

    Hi.

Need some help migrating to Exchange 2010.

    Domain Controllers:
    Windows Server 2003 standard
    Windows Server 2000 standard

Domain and forest is in 2000 native FL.

    Exchange:
Exchange 2003 standard SP2, running on the 2000 server.

I have planned to install a new temporary Windows 2003 server with Exchange 2003.
    - Move mailboxes to the temporary server.
    - Demote 2000 server
    - Raise FL to 2003
    - Install Exchange 20010 on a new Windows 2008R2 server.
    - Move mailboxes to the new Exchange 2010.

Is this the best and easiest way? Some considerations?

Easiest way is to hire a consultant to do it for you.

You must remove Exchange completely from the Windows 2000 server before you run DCPROMO on the machine. Anything else will cause you problems. However as you have Exchange on a Windows 2000 domain controller the path you have indicated is the only one available to you.

I suspect the phrase "specialising in Microsoft Exchange" was assumed somewhere above.Of course it could be that a consultant surgeon or psyhciatrist has these skills automatically
